Power outage and you have no candles ready? You want to go camping with friends, but you forgot to buy a camping stove? Because of maintenance, the water is turned off in the house and the toilet thus without flushing?
Here are 6 tips and tricks on how to best master such emergencies.
1) gas mask
For that you need:
a plastic bottle
cloth tape
rubber band
a soda can
cotton pads
activated carbon
Dust mask
That is how it goes:
1 1) Cut out one side of the bottle and tape the edges with fabric tape.
1 2) Drill a hole to the left and right into the side to attach a rubber band to it.
1 3) Also tape the edges of the lower half of a bisected beverage can with tape and hit the bottom of the can with a nail and hammer.
Then place two cotton pads in half the beverage can. Add two tablespoons of activated charcoal and put two cotton pads on top.
1 4) Unscrew the lid of the bottle and attach it to the prepared beverage can with tape.
1 5) Put on a dust mask and then on your gas mask construction. This can be your salvation if your roommate has eaten beans and there is no window in your loo.
2 ) Candle replacement
Use a crayon to replace a tealight candle by first tapping a thumbtack through an empty tealight bowl.
Then you melt the bottom of the pin to put it in the shell on the thumbtack. Finally, all you have to do is light the tip of the crayon.
3 ) Camping stove
For that you need:
2 soda cans
steel wool
a metal coaster
ethanol
a coin
That is how it goes:
3 1) In the bottom of a soda can you hit with hammer and nail holes in the marked areas.
3 2) Cut off the lower third of both beverage cans.
3 3) In the non-pierced, larger part you put steel wool. Then you put the pierced can third on this.
3 4) Place the two nested cans on a metal stand and pour some ethanol into it. Put a coin on the bottom of the can.
3 5) Use a match to ignite the flame. Now you can put a small pot on your construction and heat water in it.
4 ) Lighter
To light a pile of wood quickly and easily, sharpen a small, thin branch with an ordinary pencil sharpener.
Then you can light the resulting chips.
5) water filter
For that you need:
a plastic bottle
a piece of cloth
twine
activated carbon
sand
shingle
That is how it goes:
5 1) Halve the plastic bottle and tie a piece of cloth around the closure with the thread.
5 2) Place the bottle half upside down in a glass and fill with activated charcoal, sand and pebbles one after the other, to which you give sand and other pebbles again.
5 3) Pour the water in and wait until it finally runs through the various mineral layers and the fabric into the glass.
Finally, boil the water before drinking it.
6 ) Waterless toilet
For example, if your toilet flush is out of order due to repairs, you can help out with two garbage bags. Open the toilet seat and dress the bowl with a 120 l trash bag that you slip over the edge of the bowl.
In the big bag comes a small 50 l waste bag that you fill with cat litter. Turn down the toilet seat again, do whatever you need, put cat litter over it, and dispose of the smaller bag.
So you’re well prepared for the next emergency. Admittedly, some of these tips are more appropriate for exceptional situations, but others also help in ordinary everyday situations. Either way, in case of a case you will be glad to know these tricks and to be able to fall back on them.
