In particular, those who have no room for an electric tumble dryer or who generally do without such an energy guzzler are afraid of that. But with a few tricks that our grandmothers already knew, you can shorten the drying time of your laundry even without a hot air drum. So you not only reduces the mold problem, but also has more space for nicer things in the apartment again.
1) Dear little, but more often
Whether the laundry drum is half full or half empty, you may decide. It is only important that you only fill the washing machine in half at the time of winter. Because this allows the moisture to escape better during the spin cycle. So the laundry is already “pre-dried” when hanging.
2) Tennis Ball
The sling effect can be enhanced by adding a tennis ball to your laundry. It hurls from the inside, thus preventing moisture from accumulating in the folds of the textiles. If you do not have a tennis ball, you can alternatively sock socks into a ball. This works really well!
3) Air and gap
When hanging up the laundry you should between the parts rather too much rather than too little gaps, so that the air can circulate. If you have made the washing machine only half full (or half empty), there is enough space for it. In addition: air venting! Tear open all windows of the apartment for 5 minutes. Warm air works like a sponge: it absorbs the moisture and carries it out of the window when it is being ventilated. Then mold has no chance.
4) Out or in?
As long as it does not rain, it is always better to put the drying rack outside than in the apartment. The wind acts like a hair dryer even at low temperatures, which blows the moisture out of your clothes. A draughty loft – a lucky guy, who has such a thing – is also a suitable place.
5) Not on the heater!
If it’s going to be particularly fast, one or the other comes up with the idea to put his damp laundry on the heater. But you should not do that. Because in this way, the humidity around the radiator increases so rapidly that it collects in cracks and angles. The fact that the dammed air humidity is still so warm, the mold mushrooms all the more.
6) Freeze-drying
As soon as it gets icy, you can be happy. Now it’s time to wash out and freeze! Because curiously, deep-frozen laundry dries pretty quickly. The frozen moisture of the laundry vaporizes namely at dry minus degrees without thawing (technical term: sublimation ). Even so, your laundry is dry (he).
